Information about the South Cheshire village of Hankelow

Many wild flowers can be seen in Hankelow. Of course
these are seasonal! Look on the village green when it has
not been mowed for a while, and in the grass verges and
copses. Don't forget to look for fungi as well.

Bluebells are one of the most unmistakeable woodland flowers, and
the UK is home to about half the world population of bluebells. They flower
all around Hankelow in April and May, generally in shady spots.

Stitchwort, also known as Star of Bethlehem among other names, has a
star-shaped white flower and pointed grass-like leaves. It is quite
prevalent in Monks Lane (April 2021). There are two sizes, Greater
(flowers 2 - 3 cm. diameter) and Lesser (flowers 0.5 - 1 cm.
diameter).

Wood Anemones are a small white wildflower which can be seen
between February and April. They are a slow spreading
wildflower, a sign of ancient woodland.
